Rock’n’Roll
Welcome to 2010
Well I have finally got the Website activated again,
& am constantly trying to improve it.
The year has started again & lessons have
recommenced. All in the beginners class are doing extremely well & are
relishing the thought of venturing into Intermediate classes.
To all those people that are thinking of starting for the first time, give it a go, have some
fun, meet new friends, get fit & most importantly, learn
how to dance
THE MONTHLY SOCIALS
Due to low attendance (& turnover of money) in
2009, the Monthly Socials at Ingleburn RSL have been restricted to every second
month.
In this time of uncertainty within the Club Industry,
Ingleburn RSL is still supporting Rock’n’Roll, unlike a lot of other Clubs that
are shutting down these dances.
Please give support to Ingleburn & our other local
Clubs that are supporting us, & Rock’n’Roll.
The Club Industry cannot survive these hash times
without sales. Please; If you drink water, as most dancers do, instead of
taking advantage of the free water at the bar, buy a bottle or two, every
little bit helps (after all, we are already getting free entertainment)
FEBUARY SOCIAL
The first social for 2010 was held Friday 26 Feb.
There were over 120 rockers in attendance, for a fun filled night of dancing
& prizes. The band was Eddie Fraser
& The Memphis Outlaws, playing great music. We had our usual giveaways
& raffles, PLUS an added bonus to one lucky dancer, a free ticket for 2
people, on our upcoming Sydney Harbour Cruise + bus trip into the city. This
prize was generously donated be one of our students (who wishes to remain
anonymous) & was valued at some $130.
This brought the total prize giveaway for the night to $260. Congratulations to all the winners.
APRIL SOCIAL
The second big Dance Social for 2010, was
held on Sat 17th April. About 100 or so people attended making the
night a BIG ONE. The PINK CHEVY’S
were in great form, beating out some great music. The raffle & giveaways were
a great hit, once again. The non stop music, allowed the Swing, Cha Cha &
Line Dancers & offcourse the Rock’n’Rollers a chance to strut their stuff.
A
group of Big Als Students, took it upon themselves, with much organisation
& great expense, too have matching shirts made up, topped with a logo. They
even went to the trouble of making a table identification plaque, to mount on
their table (on top of an empty Pizza box). This plaque had a picture of a Juke
Box with the number 13 highlighted on it. This was in response to a nickname
that I had ladled them with, at lessons, (due to their fun filled antics)
whilst trying to execute a new move.
This group will be forever known as THE RIFF RAFF of TABLE 13.Looking Good
Guys. All this effort for a bit of fun. Good stuff!
Too top it off one of the RIFF RAFF won the Ingleburn RSL badge draw, on the last draw of the night, &
picked up a cool $5000
Photo’s of the night, have

Big Als Rock’n’Roll, Sunday lunch,
Rock’n’Roll Cruise, on the beautiful
There was 53 rockers is attendance, with
a good time being had by all, The cruise consisted of a BBQ lunch, rock’n’roll
music, dancing & giveaways, with a special guest appearance from, Enis
The Penis, a very entertaining, funny performer, giving us a rendition of
how Elvis, didn’t perform it, who turned out to be a great hit with the
crowd. The weather was superb, allowing people to take a break from the music,
& relax, taking in the views & the sun on the top deck, & the outside
area situated at the bow of the boat

BIG ALS , OLD BOYS
REUION
It all happened in Mudgee on the Anzac
Weekend. A group (about 34) of Big Als Rock’n’roll ex students (friends)
decided it would be a good time, to all get together.
We were based at The Riverside Caravan Park
in Mudgee. Most hired a Cabin & some dragged their Caravan the distance for
accommodation. Arrival for most was Friday (sometime) allowing for, setup &
settling in. Friday night saw a BBQ in the caravan parks Rotunda; all was a
little quiet that night due to the tiring drive of the day.
Saturday morning saw, all up early, to
board a bus, for the traditional wine tasting tour, all was great by about the
third vineyard; we were all having a great time, tasting all the different
varieties. Lunch was topped of with something a little different for most of
the guys, a beer tasting. Then it was back to the wineries for more.
Saturday night saw us at Mudgee Bowling
Club, for dinner & a Fifty- Fifty Dance (something a little different). It
started out being 50% Old Time Ballroom, followed by 50% New Vogue. Then the
One Man Band, realised (was told) that we were all Rockers, he firstly had a
Valium, & then tried to drum up some appropriate music. The night turned
out to be a great hit, with Big Als troop joining on the Barn Dance, The
Canadian Three Step & many more, & some of the Ballroom dancers getting
up for the Rock’n’Roll segment.
On Sunday we all ventured to Gulgong, &
joined into the local RSL, Anzac Luncheon, a Baked Dinner with FREE grog, all
for just $10 per head (bargain). Sunday afternoon & it was back to the
Rotunda for refreshments, & what was going to be a quick game of Pass the
Parcel (you had to be there to appreciate the game), which went on for what
seemed to be hours. After the game it was BBQ time, more refreshments, followed
by a sing song, which kept half of Mudgee awake, going well into the night.
All was quiet Monday morning, plenty of
coffee was consumed, apologies to the management for the undue noise, then,
came time to pack up for the journey home.
A great weekend was had by all. It was
great to see all the passed members of Big Als together again.
A BIG thanks goes out to the Organisers of
the weekend. Sandra & Reg Wales & Janine & Dave Taite
